America Roulette

Roulette (American Roulette) Tips

Roulette is one of the most iconic casino games in the world. Who has not been mesmerized by the spinning ball rounding the roulette wheel then bouncing to a stop on one lucky number? It has been around since the 1700’s, creating lots of history around the game.

Roulette started in France and quickly spread across Europe and into American gambling boats and other establishments. Traditional European Roulette wheels have the numbers 1 through 36 plus a 0, while the American Roulette wheel has 1 through 36 plus 0 and double 0.

For the purposes of this article we will be discussing American Roulette.

Roulette can be played at any quality online casino. Among the best are PartyCasino, and the largest online casino in the world, Bovada Casino. All of these are highly respected and well-established internet casinos. They also all have both American and European versions of Roulette.

The game itself is pretty simple. Players at the table are all given different color chips to differentiate each person’s bets. The dealer will call for bets, then spin a ball in the opposite direction that the wheel is spinning. Players may bet for a short time while the wheel continues to spin.

There are a number of different ways to place bets. One way is just to bet on any single number on the table, which is called a straight up bet. This bet is placed by placing chips directly on any number on the table, including 0 or 00.

The payout for winning a straight up bet is 35 to 1. Very nice for sure if you are lucky enough to hit. The odds against winning a straight up bet are 37 to 1 against.

If you want to increase your chances of actually winning something on the roulette tables, there are a number of different bets that give pretty good odds. Betting on Black or Red and betting on Odd or Even give you nearly 50/50 odds at winning.

Remember that since there is a 0 and 00, the house has a slight edge, since if the ball lands on either of those the house wins all of these bets. Your actual probability of winning with a Black/Red or Odd/Even bet is 47.37%.  You also get the same odds if you choose to bet the numbers 1 through 18 or 19 through 36.  All of these bets pay 1 to 1.

Feeling just a little more risky? You can make 2 to 1 bets as well. Betting number 1 through 12, 13 through 24, or 25 through 36, you have a probability of winning of 31.58%.

Of course, as you reduce the number of places you are betting on, you also reduce your chances of winning. However, the flip side is that you can win a lot more this way as well. Betting Six numbers pays 5 to 1, while betting the first 5 numbers, 0-00-1-2-3, pays 6 to 1.

This is basically the worst bet on the table because the house has an edge of 7.89% on this bet, while it only has 5.26 on all other bets.

A corner bet is when you place chips on a intersection between 4 numbers. Hitting one of the 4 pays 8 to 1. You can bet a street by placing chips on the edge of a row of numbers. Since there are 3 numbers in each row, you are betting on the ball landing on one of these three. This pays 11 to 1.

When you place chips on the line between two numbers you are betting a split. Hitting one of these two pays out nicely at 17 to 1.

Remember that no matter what anyone says, or what kind of “system” they have, roulette is not a game that can be beaten over the long term. You can absolutely get lucky or get hot and win a ton playing roulette. But the casino has too much of an edge to ever be able to “beat” the roulette wheel.

To paraphrase Albert Einstein, “No one can possibly win at roulette unless he steals money from the table.”

Roulette is however, one of the most exciting and entertaining games you will find in any casino. Knowing the rules and how to play the odds will make you a winner more often, and that of course, is what is really fun about playing Roulette!
